Perhaps this state of affairs indicates a greater shift than curators merely growing more timid. Might it signal a new uneasiness with the idea of the individual author and the preeminence of singular perspectives? While seeing the breadth and development of a career’s worth of work from a single artist can be interesting and instructive, does it necessarily bolster wider conversations?
